Sue is exactly correct. BTW, key-word mnemonics (the core of the LINCS strategy) was originally developed as a foreign-language instructional strategy! Ed

(This is more challenging for a teacher who doesn’t know the foreign language!) However, for a teacher who knows (say, Spanish), and the majority of the students are Spanish, AND if the reminding word fits the three criteria (real word, known meaning, and sounds like new vocabulary word) then they say that can really help those students with remembering.

A middle school social studies teacher asked if others have used LINCing with ELLs and wondered if the device needed to be modified in any way. She wondered, for instance, if the reminding word might cause an issue. We kicked around some ideas, and I told her I would check in with the network and get back to her.
