Excellent point. Every situation is different, and I can see how the investment in such devices can be very useful. It depends upon how the video will be used beyond coaching or classroom instructional purposes. When the video is just between the teacher and coach, using such a device could be tremendously useful in capturing the classroom environment as well.
In our case, a state project, various people across the state were going to be able to view video. The intent was to possibly build a library of 'good ones' to use across the project (five districts and three detention facilities). We needed to be very sensitive in regard to student data, faces, etc.
Good luck with whatever decision you make. If I had one, I would hog it in my room all the time and hide it from others B-)

To avoid the issue of students in video we put swivel closer to the teacher, most of time we only capture the back of students heads. We also only give access to the teacher for the video, it's not shared with anyone else. For coaching purposes only .

One more thing, we couldn't record the kids, so that factored into the decision to not use the SWIVEL.

Subject: [Simtrainer-l] Video Coaching
Hello All,
If you have engaged in video coaching with teachers, could you share with me what equipment you use for video recording.
I understand there are wireless systems that can be synced to a phone or tablet that allow the recording device to move freely capturing all teacher movements in the classroom.
And there are also basic stands for your phone or tablet that allow for hands free recording.
Not sure if there is something in between these two options that is affordable.
Thanks in advance for any and all suggestions.
Best,
cathy
