The College is putting together a Data Science Major and they asked for a list of classes that can contribute to the major. Take a look at the list below and let me know the classes you teach that may fit with which one of these core competencies.  Please send this to me before September 1st to make the course list.


We are at the beginning stages of creating a proposal for a data science major. Many of you have courses in your units that would be relevant for inclusion in the data science curriculum. The degree program will be built around nine core competencies:

(1) mathematical foundations

(2) computational foundations

(3) statistical foundations

(4) data management & curation

(5) data modeling & assessment

(6) workflow & reproducibility

(7) communication & teamwork

(8) knowledge transference

(9) ethical problem solving

(Please see the attached document for more information about each competency area.)
