Yes, I am planning on teaching the session. Guess faculty are now only 1K better than instructors on the salary per class schedule. IF they keep pushing down the salary, faculty will be less likely to teach it. But, perhaps, that is the long term plan.

Subject: Call for Winter Session Proposals
*Sent on behalf of Associate Director Samantha Montague, College Outreach & Online Programs*
Despite the arrival of summer, winter is still coming...
The College's second winter session in 2017 was another great success. Winter session courses allow our students the opportunity to get ahead or stay on track for graduation, and provide them with the flexibility to engage in experiential learning opportunities available in the fall and spring semesters.
We are reaching out to you seeking course proposal offerings for the College's third winter session. Winter session courses will be offered online during winter break between the dates of December 17th, 2018 - January 11th, 2019. Grades will be due by February 8th, 2018.
We will continue our successful partnership with the Center for Online and Distance Learning (CODL) to help departments design winter session courses that achieve desired learning outcomes without simply accelerating a 16 or 8 week course. All course design for winter session will be done in collaboration between instructors and CODL staff which will include regular meetings through the design process and support as needed during the winter session dates.
If you are interested in offering a course from your department during the winter session please complete the attached worksheet and return it to Samantha Montague at smontag at ku.edu<mailto:smontag at ku.edu> by May 25th. Proposals will be reviewed by the College Online and CODL, and departments notified on the acceptance of proposals by June 1st.
If possible, it is recommended that course design with CODL begin as soon as June or August. CODL will contact instructors to set up an initial consultation which must take place by September 14th. If an instructor cannot meet these deadlines the College reserves the option to cancel the course. The intentional design and development of 4-week winter session courses is critical to both instructor and student success.
Below you will find more information about the staffing and budget model for winter session, with additional appointment details in the attached document. If you have additional questions, please contact Samantha Montague at smontag at ku.edu<mailto:smontag at ku.edu> or Dr. Holly Storkel, Associate Dean for Academic Innovation and Student Success at hstorkel at ku.edu<mailto:hstorkel at ku.edu>.
Otherwise, complete the attached worksheet and submit that to us as soon as possible.
Thank you,
Samantha
Staffing and Budget Model Information:
* Winter session courses can be taught by faculty, lecturers, or GTA's. The proposed salary amount for each type of instructor is listed in the attached spreadsheet and follows the same salary structure used for summer courses.
* It is preferable that winter session courses are taught on load, but can be taught as overloads if the instructor is already appointed full time and agrees to teach one additional section during winter. Courses taught on load could create opportunities for faculty to teach one less course during the fall or spring semester to allow them more time to focus on their research or other activities.
* Each course should have a minimum cap of 20 students and a maximum of 35. Each course must have at least 12 students enrolled in order to be offered. We will review enrollment carefully and make adjustments as needed. Given consultation with the College Online and CODL, courses may scale beyond 35.
* Departments will receive 10% of the net tuition revenue generated from their intersession courses. These returns will be in the form of additional operating expense (OOE) funds that can be used by the department at their discretion. For example, these funds could be used to provide additional faculty travel funds. We will be calculating the returns late in the spring semester and will return the funds at the beginning of the next fiscal year. This will allow the department a full fiscal year to spend these funds in the year after they are generated.
