2018 Summer Research Grants
Request for Proposals
Deadline: 5 PM Monday, 23 April 2018

The leadership team for the Kansas Consortium-Intelligence Community Center for Academic Excellence seeks summer research proposals for projects related to the U.S. intelligence community. Faculty from the KC-ICCAE are eligible for the grant-the University of Kansas, Donnelly College, Dodge City Community College, and Seward County Community College.

In October 2017, the University of Kansas in consortium with Donnelly College, Dodge City Community College, and Seward County Community College received a five-year, $1.55 million grant from the Defense Intelligence Agency and was named an Intelligence Community Center for Academic Excellence. In addition to funding for the creation of undergraduate academic programming and public programming related to the intelligence community, the grant provides $40,000 funding during the base year for the sponsorship of academic research at KU and the consortium schools related to the intelligence community and the programs being initiated pursuant to the grant.

In accordance with the terms of the grant, the leadership team managing the grant hereby solicits proposals from faculty at KU and the consortium schools for research funding for Summer 2018. Proposals should include:

*         a brief statement of the proposed research;

*         an explanation of how the proposed research relates to the United States intelligence community (including research to prepare new online courses to be offered by KU and the consortium schools);

*         a cv of the faculty member seeking the research funding;

*         project timeline

* budget justification, which includes proposed use of the funding (faculty summer salary, student research assistance); and a statement of proposed outcomes for the research.

Proposals are especially encouraged that:

* result in further funding applications and the preparation of a "white paper" of interest to the intelligence community (see, e.g., https://www.grants.gov/web/grants/view-opportunity.html?oppId=300895)

* are made up of lead investigators from multiple KC-ICCAE schools

Proposals are due by 5:00 PM on Monday 23 April 2018.

Proposals will be evaluated by a team comprised of faculty members from KU and the consortium schools. Faculty submitting proposals will be informed of the results of the grant competition by 15 May 2018. The management team anticipates awarding up to six awards. Proposals that include funding for undergraduate research assistants will be favorably considered. Indirect costs and graduate student tuition are not allowable under this program. All funds granted must be expended by 1 September 2018.

Questions relating to these grants may be directed to the Principal Investigator, Michael Hoeflich, at Hoeflich at ku.edu<mailto:Hoeflich at ku.edu>.

Proposals should be no more than two pages (not including cv) and submitted as a PDF by 5:00 PM on 23 April to Leslie VonHolten at lvonholt at ku.edu<mailto:lvonholt at ku.edu>.
