[Pols-l] Dept. Phone System converting to Skype in a week

I am writing the Political Science department faculty to let you know that a week from today, on Sept. 19, or about then, the Political Science office and faculty phones will be converted over to Skype for Business phone service.  (ie you will no longer be using the telephone in your office, but instead calls will come in over the Skype for Business on your computer).  In most cases, the phone number you have been using for your office will also be connected to your Skype, and it will  also roll over to your department e-mail.

In preparation for this, you can watch the training videos at the link below, and read the attached information.  I also understand that it is Suzie Johannes who is the lead of the training staff for this and can help schedule those who want to attend Skype training.

Skype for Business phone service eliminates the need for traditional desk phones, and the portability of headsets helps maximize the mobile capabilities of Skype for Business. University leadership has determined that headsets will replace desk phones for most faculty and staff. Individual units/departments have the option of purchasing compatible desktop-style phones for employees. Please work with your unit's campus technology support staff to purchase Skype for Business compatible devices.
Important Note:  For emergency calls, please use your cell phone instead

A technology support staff member will be on hand before or during the transition to assist with installing headsets or other audio devices..
