Colleagues, please review the attached by Friday and send your thoughts to me (don't directly reply to this message unless you want it to go to the whole list).
I'm open to the idea of a joint position for this person (perhaps with Urban Planning or economics), but I don't think he can offer too many POLS courses.
If there is interest in this we can ask for a formal interview. If not we can get on with our semester.
Thank you for your attention.

Subject: Possible Hire
Dear Don,
I am attaching a letter, CV, and list of references for Dr. Yasuyuki Motoyama, Director of Research and Policy for the Kauffman Foundation. He met with Neeli yesterday to discuss his background and the possibility of a faculty position at KU. He is the spouse of Dr. Michelle Johnson-Motoyama, Associate Professor and Associate Dean in the School of Social Welfare. Dr. Motoyama's doctoral degree is in City and Regional Planning from UC Berkeley. He holds a Master of Public Administration from Cornell in Development Economic and Statistics from Cornell, and a BA in History, International Relations, and Political Science from U of Wisconsin- Madison. He was a post doctoral fellow at the UC Santa Barbara Center for Nanotechnology in Society and a post doctoral associate at UCLA in the Lewis Center for Regional Policy Studies. His research and publications cover entrepreneurship, economic development, collaborations between universities and industry, etc. So while his educational background is in the social sciences, his research relates to both business and engineering.
Due to changes at the Kauffman Foundation, Dr. Motoyama is interested in the possibility of a tenure-track position at KU. I wonder if Dr. Motoyama might be a good fit in Political Science? Would you please take a look at his materials, discuss with your faculty, and get back to me? This could be a 100% FTE in Political Science or a joint hire with another CLAS unit.
Thanks for looking at this opportunity.
Jim
