CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS: The Feminist Agenda: KUETCWGE’s Collaborative Zine Project

It’s 2020, we are in the midst of a global pandemic, and November’s election will determine the U.S. presidency and its policies for the next four years. Regardless of who wins, the existing two-party system has failed to prioritize the material needs of women, children, and gender minorities. This reality is exacerbated for those who experience compound oppression at the intersections of race, ability, sexuality, class, and more.

With this zine, we would like to dream with our community about what a truly feminist political future would look like if we addressed issues facing women, children, and gender minorities.

Please join us by submitting an 8.5 x 11” (standard size printer paper) page for inclusion in this collaborative zine project by September 30th. Your page should address one or both of the following prompts:

  *   What would your feminist political platform look like?
  *   What issue or issues disproportionately affecting women, children, and gender minorities must a feminist platform address?

Written and/or visual submissions may include, but are not limited to: essays, personal narratives, poetry, collage, comics, drawings, or photographs.

To encourage people to submit pages, Emily Taylor Center for Women & Gender Equity is offering free zine making kits upon request for our local community members. To request a kit, visit https://bit.ly/KUETCWGE-RequestZineKit. When kits are ready for contactless pickup outside our space in the Burge Union (Suite 1040), we will notify requesters by email.

Please send digital submissions to emilytaylorcenter at ku.edu<mailto:emilytaylorcenter at ku.edu> and hard-copy submissions to Emily Taylor Center for Women & Gender Equity, 1565 Irving Hill Road, Suite 1040, Lawrence, KS 66045 by 9/30/20.

All submissions will be compiled into a joint zine and premiered at Educate & Act: The Feminist Agenda<https://www.facebook.com/events/1547005562138140/>, a virtual zine release, reading, and reflection event on Tuesday, October 6th, 6:00 PM CST. This event is part of our Spring/Fall 2020 Educate & Act: Civil Engagement in 2020 Series, co-sponsored by The Commons and KU Center for Civic Engagement. Contributors to The Feminist Agenda are invited to join us in sharing their page and making process during this event.
