Dear colleagues,

As some of you may know, I’ve worked over the past year to raise funds to set up a Trade War Lab<https://sites.google.com/view/jackzhang/twl> here at KU. Since the U.S.-China trade war touches on international relations (IPE, security etc), American politics (Congress, lobbying etc), and comparative politics (China), I thought a speaker series might be of interest to faculty from across the department and around campus. I also see it as a professionalization and networking opportunity for our graduate students.

I am pleased to announce that we are launching this new online speaker series on Friday, November 6, 2020 @11:30am-12:30pm CDT. Our first speaker is Professor Jieun Lee, who is a Michigan PhD just starting at UB, presenting on "Foreign Lobbying Through Domestic Subsidiaries.”

One of the silver linings of the pandemic is that speakers are much easier to schedule and cost nothing. But I do hope that, if the speaker series is successful in this soft launch, I can raise funds here on campus and through external grants to bring 1-2 live speakers per semester to KU when the covid (eventually) gets under control.

I would be grateful if you could make time to attend this talk and say hi to Jieun next Friday! Please also help me forward the following poster and RSVP link to your students and other interested colleagues! All are welcome. Thank you and hope to see you after the election!
