All Faculty and GTAs teaching this fall semester,

We have started the first round of planning for accommodating fall courses to ensure safety measures are in place. Please note that we have to submit changes by June 24. I am attaching the guidance and instructions shared with chairs and directors today. Please review and ask questions. I will be reaching out to those of you that have made previous requests and those of you listed as teaching courses that are in rooms that currently exceed safety measures.

Please note two important facts 1) regardless of how your course ends up being listed you should be prepared to deliver your course content online for students that may have extended time outside of the classroom, however, we will not create online sections of in-person courses except in unusual circumstances, 2) in part this means that even if you teach in person (P) you should record your lectures and content and share with students on BlackBoard, and 3) if you do end up teaching a hybrid (a partly or mostly online) course we still ask that still have video class sessions with the students at the scheduled class session times so that students can plan their schedules accordingly.

In part this means that we will not change any in-person courses to completely online (WW). Instead some courses will be listed as Hybrid Online Classes (HO; see attachment), where students would only meet in person for project meetings, small groups, or cohorts, but receive up to 99% of the content through online resources.

You'll see from the list the we have a fair number of courses that are expected to go forward In Person (P).

Large courses (over 25) that exceed the capacity of the room could request a new room, move to cohort sections, or move to a hybrid forms (HC or HO). I will reach out to you but if you have preferences feel free to contact me soon.

If you have a request to change a course to one of the hybrid forms (HC or HO) but the form shows the course as safely within the enrollment capacity, please let me know before June 24.

We may have to go through a few rounds of course changes before classes start in August.

A final clarification note. We have been told that the week after Thanksgiving should be treated as a study week for students. Faculty should not be providing new content or issuing new assignments. You are still free to meet with your students, conduct review sessions, etc. via video or discussion rooms.
