 Biogeography is a special case, John! My comments weren't including biogeography.

 Stephen makes a good point about scientific studies not 'showing' anything, but I am not sure either that they can "suggest" a conclusion either. It would seem to me that any conclusion is also a product of a "complex" process of thinking by the researcher/s partly involving, as Stephen notes, politics in the general sense. Is science just metaphysics? (just rhetorical, various philosophers have ground down enough on that one and it's all above my pay grade).
On a more specific note - "3 genera are well separated from Polygonum in molecular and morphological characters" is all relative since there are no absolutes in how 'separated' anything is from anything else.
