Dear Jozef:

regarding treatment of Polygonaceae, *Polygonum* s.l. is outdated and
*Polygonum
cuspidatum* should no longer be used. Molecular phylogenies show two
possible approaches for *Reynoutria*:

1) Some prefer to take a broad view, and treat the clade including
*Fallopia*, *Muehlenbeckia*, and *Reynoutria* as one entity, for which the
name *Fallopia* has priority.

2) Others (including several of us who have worked on Polygonaceae) prefer
to treat the clades *Fallopia*, *Muehlenbeckia*, and *Reynoutria *as
separate*. *So,* Reynoutria japonica *Houtt. for Japanese knotweed.
