Hi Mario,

Thanks for your input. Yes, the carbon emissions of Ethereum are a current concern. But there seems to be little chance that VEROs will become a big source of energy consumption between now and when Ethereum makes the switch. 

By the way, Ethereum has moved the switchover forward to the end of 2021.

But I am glad you raised this point and until the switchover we should certainly be wary about producing VEROs from anything that is not going to be of obvious benefit to the scientific community. However, I don't think these concerns should preclude creating some VEROs in the short term to show proof of concept. Energy sustainability seems like a longer term issue and should be a huge impediment to scaling VEROs if the transition to proof of stake does not happen very soon.
