[Taxacom] Species Cite: linking scientific names to publications and taxonomists

I am surprised nobody is talking about this - Species Cite is an amazing resource and a fantastic service to the taxonomic community. Rod deserves everyone's gratitude for his efforts in making this available. I hope many colleagues will use this new tool to overcome the "citation impediment" that has long plagued taxonomy.

The ultimate goal is to have every scientific name linked to a full bibliographic citation, which ideally would also be linked to an external identifier and the actual publication (e.g. a PDF). There are examples of this on the web site. The data underlying this site come from several taxonomic name databases (ION, IPNI, Index Fungorum, Nomenclator Zoologicus), together with Wikidata, and various projects I’ve been working on to link names to publications.

Very much a work in progress with huge gaps, but I hope its coverage will increase over time, particularly as more and more of the taxonomic literature is catalogued in Wikidata.
