For anyone interested, I can provide a scan of the following article and
also for Anglophones like me, an English facsimile (please let me know if
you want the original or both).
Croizat, L. 1961. Entre lo viejo y lo nuevo. Revista Shell [Venezuela].
December 1961. 41: 29-36.
The English translation was a computer aided exercise and make no warranty
as to accuracy or any other issues. It was done purely for my own
information and does contain typos, but should be sufficient to give a good
indication of the content.
Perhaps of general interest is Croizat's assertion that the groundwork of
modern biogeography in the New World was initiated in the 1600's by the
Carmelite monk Vàsquez de Espinozsa. Croizat also briefly reviews some
aspects of Pacific biogeography involving Chile and also the significance
of Chilean Coastal Range biogeography in relation to the Pacific and the
Andes.
