[Taxacom] adaptation of plants to mowing

Dear Fred,

Take a look at Baker, H.G., 1974. The evolution of weeds. Annual review of ecology and systematics, 5(1), pp.1-24. I think he refers to the weeds growing lower in stature in response to mowing, walking, etc as "treading plants". I remember him bringing this up in his Evolutionary Ecology class, when I was in it. There are lots of citations of his paper, afterward, so you may be able to find more references.

   Hope this helps.

      Sincerely,
        Rich

Taxacomers,

I'm writing an article for our local newspaper about the way low-growing
patches of Lotus corniculatus, Bird's-foot Trefoil, are spreading across
lawns in eastern Ontario. I've asked a botanists group, and have googled
around, but can't find any published research on this.

Does anyone know of work done on plant species (other than Dandelions)
evolving low growth forms adapted to life on lawns?

fred.
