To be precise, assessing the value of molecular characters is often more
objective than certain morphological characters, because there are discrete
states for the molecular characters, and many morphological characters are
continuously varying. However, assessing homology of either can be
similarly subjective (such as dealing with indels), and there are ways to
quantify continuously varying characters. Likewise, deciding which
characters are actually useful for a particular question has a similar
level of subjectivity no matter what the character type is.
