Part VIII of Ferris' publication series "Contributions toward a monograph
of the sucking lice" (Stanford Univ. Publ. Biol. Sci. 2(8): 529-634; 1935)
contains a complete list of names ever used in the genus Pediculus. The
later monograph of Ferris ("The sucking lice", Mem. Pacific Coast Ent. Soc.
1; 1951) contains a concise summary of the main findings of the 1935 paper,
presents a synonymy list, and a good discussion of Pediculus spp. ascribed
to man (p. 261-272). These are essential publications on this topic. I do
not think there were many species described after 1951 which were later
synonymized with P. humanus, perhaps none, but if anyone is aware of later
synonyms, I would be interested.
