Dear GBIF colleagues,

I am deeply saddened to report news we have just received from colleagues in CSIRO and the Atlas of Living Australia.

John La Salle, Director of the ALA, and well known to many of us as an enthusiastic and active member of the GBIF Governing Board, was killed on Sunday in a motor accident in New South Wales.

I knew John well, both from time working closely with him in Canberra and also through many positive interactions and collaborations in recent years.  This is a tragic loss for us all.  Our thoughts are with his family and colleagues.
