Just a follow up note for those interested, I finally managed to track down
that obscure paper on Phassus schamyl published in  *Bulletin du Club Alpin
de Crimee et du Caucase.* Several people kindly provided feedback but it
seemed like an insoluble task until Andriy Novikov was able to locate and
send me a copy of the article (which could be copied electronically so
facilitating a translation). This paper is perhaps minute in the greater
scheme of things, but very happy to have it as it is a landmark study for
my group and a paper that appears to have been completely overlooked in the
subsequent literature (at least perhaps outside the Russian literature).

In this context TAXACOM is worth its weight in gold (although not sure how
to weight that :)
