Hi Tony,
In 1998, Thomas Cavalier-Smith calls this taxon Subphylum Deinobacteria (in "A revised six-kingdom system of life"; Biol. Rev. (1998): page 218). He refers to it as Deinobacteria Cavalier-Smith, 1986, which I assume is his 1986 paper "The kingdoms of organisms" (Nature 324:416-417). That would antedate the Weisberg et al. paper by two or three years.
---------------Ken

Subject: Re: [Taxacom] Paper request
Matter arising... the paper in question (Weisberg et al. 1989) uses the
term "Deinococcus-Thermus Phylum", apparently for the first time, but does
not provide a formal definition. Any ideas as to whether or not this
constitutes sufficient for authorship of this taxon name, or if not, where
the latter correctly resides?
Regards - Tony
