Dear Madam/Sir,



The Secretariat of the Convention on Biological Diversity is seeking expressions of interest from relevant institutions/organizations for hosting Global Taxonomy Initiative (GTI) training courses in 2018 on DNA technologies for rapid species identification. The Secretariat supports the trainings in partnership with the Guelph University and Biodiversity Institute of Ontario in Canada, in line with decisions XI/29 and XIII/31 of the Conference of the Parties to the Convention.



Developing countries, as well as countries with economies in transition are invited to submit proposals for training on DNA technologies, such as application of DNA barcoding for rapid species identification at the national, sub-regional or regional level. Proposals should be prepared together with the trained trainers who have accomplished the GTI Training Courses in 2015-2016 or by relevant networks of DNA barcoding in the region [see website below].



Proposals should be prepared using the application form available at http://www.cbd.int/gti/ and should be accompanied by a letter of endorsement signed by the Primary National Focal Point for the CBD and a letter of endorsement by the host institute, as well as from donors, if applicable, in one package, which  should be submitted via e-mail to secretariat at cbd.int<mailto:secretariat at cbd.int> or fax to + 1 514 288 6588 no later than 30 November 2017.



All proposals will be reviewed by the Secretariat in consultation with the GTI Coordination Mechanism.
