[Taxacom] Another request for help with a name

Thank you for finding all those links, clarifying the authorship, and raising questions about the Pretoria images. I am trying not to go down yet another rabbit hole but if anyone knows of a key to the genus, I would love to have a copy. A copy with permission to post to KeyBase (http://keybase.rbg.vic.gov.au/dev/) would be even more wonderful. According to Catalogue of Life there are only 12 species but the list does not include L. melanurus. Perhaps it is much larger. Is anyone working on the genus? They are rather pretty.

Lycus melanurus Schönherr, 1817. The original description is this one:
https://www.biodiversitylibrary.org/item/133008#page/84/mode/1up
Type locality Sierra Leone.
Referred to description here:
https://www.biodiversitylibrary.org/item/216050#page/554/mode/1up
Description was attributed to Dalman, name was not attributed to Dalman, so under Art. 50.1.1. the authorship for the name must be attributed to Schönherr alone.
ö is correct, oe is for those who cannot create the ö.
Figures were published here (Fig. 7):
https://www.biodiversitylibrary.org/item/216050#page/793/mode/1up
Seems to suggest to me that in the case of the Pretoria beetle we are not dealing with melanurus, but with a different species. The beetle from Sierra Leone seems more slender. The structure at the proximal section of the elytra seems different. Just some thoughts, I am no Coleoptera expert.
Other specimens from Mozambique look like the Pretoria specimen:

If this helps.
Cheers
Francisco

>> This is named in iNaturalist at Lycus melanurus but I cannot find that name in GIBF, Catalogue of Life, ITIS, or Species 2000. There is an image of the creature at https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Lycus_melanurus,_bosy,_Pretoria.jpg and https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Lycus_melanurus,_ondersy,_Pretoria.jpg. I am wanting to add the author of the name to the taxonomic backbone of SCAN. A google search sees it listed as Hook-winged Net-winged Beetle<https://www.inaturalist.org/taxa/477080-Lycus-melanurus> but the only references to it take me back to the iNaturalist record. BHL suggests that the author is Dalman, 1817 but, in other works, it seems to be treated as a synonym of Strangalia melanura L. Please, if someone out there knows these creatures, would you tell me whether a) Dalman, 1817 is the author and b) whether that is the currently accepted name or is it (and possibly others) now under some other genus? If there is a paper that treats the group, I would be delighted to hear of it - and share information about it with others.
