Dear Ellinor,

Thank you for pointing to the very interesting set of examples highlighting 
the importance of taxonomic studies. Among other examples, I would like to 
draw your attention towards Anisopteromalus quinarius Gokhman & Baur, a 
small parasitoid (Insecta: Hymenoptera: Chalcidoidea: Pteromalidae) 
attacking a number of coleopteran stored-product pests, mostly of the family 
Anobiidae. As many other parasitoids of stored-product insects, it is 
virtually cosmopolitan. Moreover, it often inhabits people’s homes and 
analogous habitats where its preferred hosts usually live, but it remained 
undescribed up to 2014(!), because it was easily confused with another 
member of its genus, i.e. Anisopteromalus calandrae (Howard, 1881) having 
similar biology. About 20 years ago, I first detected the presence of 
cryptic species in the Anisopteromalus calandrae species complex using 
chromosomal analysis, and in 2014, after a thorough study, we were able to 
describe a new species, A. quinarius (please see: Baur H, 
Kranz-Baltensperger Y, Cruaud A, Rasplus J-Y, Timokhov AV, Gokhman VE. 2014.
