[Taxacom] genetic test for importing foreign animals

Dear members,

I have a question on importing foreign insects. The reason is because there
are some species of Lepidoptera that are very rare and would like to know
if we can import foreign specimens and let them survive in my country or
breed with domestic ones. The purpose is of course to increase the number
of specimens of such rare species.
My question is what kind of genetic studies can be needed or useful for
criteria in importing species? If I simply compare one or more genes
between specimens from my country and from other adjacent countries, what
should I look for, and in what conditions we can import them from other
countries? Should I look for those with genetically similar ones or the
other way?
