[Taxacom] Identification key software

Hi All,

Given the previous queries and comments on this topic, the Lucid team would like to make the following points:

1. Software development, updates and support clearly takes time and money. We've achieved what we hope is a good track record for Lucid development and support over the past 12 years through a funding strategy of grants, contracts and software sales, along with supporting open formats and innovative features.

2. Our most recent development of Lucid Mobile, provides a platform for deploying identification and diagnostic keys via Android and iOS devices(e.g. see the latest Newsletter - http://www.lucidcentral.org/mail/2015/Feb/). This form of publication requires considerable expertise and time to package a key that meets the requirements of the Google Play Store and Apple iTunes. Unfortunately it's just not possible to press a button and output apps ready for publication, particularly for iOS, in the same way we do for other forms of key deployment. 

3. We offer this mobile publication service at a low cost, but this assumes all the app requirements are met for publication, including artwork and content formats. If a user wants us to prepare these materials it will cost more. Of course free keys can still be published by the user, to a hard drive, CD, USB or to the Internet at no additional cost.

I would like to hear from people who have experience using Lucid Key or similar software to produce identification keys. Lucid Key has a good reputation but it is pricey, especially if multiple researchers are involved.

One feature that I'm interested is to be able to generate online and mobile keys. I understand that Lucid can do that, but you have to pay fees to have mobile keys produced (which can be expensive). Therefore, I'm also interested in alternatives to Lucid.
