Alan is correct -- it was the Brooklyn Botanic Gardens that put their Science program on hold last year.

The New York Botanical Garden (located in the Bronx) has a large staff and active collections, research, training, and publishing programs. This person hired for this position will belong to the Herbarium, which currently has a staff of 28 FTE.

John -- I think you are thinking of the controversial de-sciencing of the Brooklyn Botanical Garden, separate institutions, though only a dozen or so miles apart.

This posting reminds me that I recall that sometime ago there was concern that the nybg was eliminating many/most? plant research positions. But according to the web page there are plenty of researchers. Is my memory incorrect or did the layoff not happen?
