[Taxacom] Catalogue of Life User Survey Open

Indeed ... tempus fugit!

Agreed ... unless shown otherwise all names when published applied to a good species 'in the eyes of the beholder'; just done what you propose (more or less) for plants with fungal data to produce a first version (certainly containing taxonomic errors) of a global checklist for the fungi ... which was included in the 15th August release of the CoL.

Raymond; That is indeed the most common answer "no time". That global lists of all groups do not exist yet is largely because of "no time" issues. Money and no experts for the group are the other two.
Paul, a name is of course not a species (or hypothesis) but all names added to a nomenclatural database are accepted species (conceps) as long as nobody publishes anything else on them which is the case for many names. So if theplantlist fills in the gaps with IPNI data then in a lot of instances that is all we know and the protologue is the concept.

Rafael, thanks for the offer, but we are currently snowed under with unwanted litigation at the moment so not in a position to fix the database.
But if you or someone there goes to "www.zoobank.org" and types in the name "Hoser" and then harvests the data from there for nomenclatural acts and then does the same for "Wells", you'll get several hundred missing taxa in one go! You'll also find a lot of your missing data on the Zoological Record databases, but they tend to run about 6 months late in their indexing of taxonomy publications.

All the best
