[Taxacom] Global Names Index

Well, yes, but I'm not sure how far they have got digitising Zoo Record? At any rate, they are particularly bad at tracking taxonomic changes like new combinations, and there are random gaps and other major problems. Quite how accurate the metrics are is anyone's guess!

ION is much more extensive than this, see http://www.organismnames.com/metrics.htm?page=graphs

Most of its content comes from digitisation of Zoological Record, the corresponding volume is often displayed on the web site, e.g. http://www.organismnames.com/details.htm?lsid=3785435 is from Zoological Record 37 . You can see the original record in a copy scanned by Google, see https://archive.org/stream/zoologicalrecor09londgoog#page/n191/mode/1up

As I understand it, ION (the free version) only has names starting from about 1977 (or earlier ones only if they were cited in post-1976 articles). So, if I am correct, you are unlikely to find a pre-1977 name that has not been cited after 1976 ..
