I suspect there is no online version of 1066 and All That for tracking
down the more popular associations of various historical individuals.
Supposedly Canute's courtiers reached the point in flattery of saying
he literally ruled the waves, whereupon he demonstrated this was
overblown with a trip to the beach where the tide came in no matter
what orders he gave.

Regrettably, much of the online mass compilation of taxonomic data
somewhat resembles the basic approach to history taken in 1066 and All
That.
