Hi all,
Concerning the use of "cf." and other abbreviations of latin terms:
I
never know if it should be italicized, as the genus and species
epithets. Although it is not in most of published species list, I was
wondering if it should be italicized, since it comes from latin...
junst wondering

Hi Tony,
"cf." is an abbreviation for "confer" and therefore takes a period. See: W.T. Stern, Botanical Latin (Chap. XXVI, "Symbols and Abbreviations").
Unless of course your editorial policy and/or particular flavo(u)r of English allows abbreviations without periods....
