Conversely, for publications that are legitimately out of print, out
of copyright, etc., is there any evidence as to the quality of the
reproductions?  The online accessibility of many scanned works is a
great asset, but far too many had no checking to confirm whether they
are complete (hint to Google: a scan of a folded-up oversize page does
no one any good), whether the figures are decent replicas of the
original, etc.  I would not be happy to pay for some publication only
to receive basically a bound printout of the online scan complete with
flaws of sloppy scanning.
