then, Rod, you missed my point ... the notion is not only not laughable, but *true by definition*, though "separate" in this context must be understood as "conceptually separate", not "physically or ecologically separate". Example: an earthquake and associated tsunami is a natural disaster, 9/11 was not a natural disaster, though it would have been if real monkeys had planned and executed the attacks. It is a good distinction, and to claim that humans are part of nature is a nonsense, but they are of course part of the overall system (human + nature), and it is a tight knit system ...

Mark, it's far from naive. Surely the notion that humans are somehow separate from nature is laughable, especially coming from taxonomists of all people.
