Dear Taxacom reader,
the BioCASe development team is happy to announce the release of version 3.2 of the BioCASe Provider Software. With this new version, the information published by a BioCASe web service can be easily stored in XML or DarwinCore Archives.
The Biological Collection Access Service (BioCASe) is a suite of standards and tools for networking primary biodiversity data from heterogeneous natural history collections and observations databases. Besides the its core standard Access to Biological Collections Databases (ABCD), the main component of BioCASe is the BioCASe Provider Software, a tool for publishing data to primary biodiversity data networks such as the Global Biodiversity Information Facility (GBIF). Currently, BioCASe is used by nearly 90 providers worldwide.
With the new archives supported by BioCASe, harvesting and indexing processes will be more efficient and less error-prone. BioCASe data providers can now easily choose and switch between using the slim DarwinCore standard used in DarwinCore Archives and the richer ABCD schema. For more information on BioCASe and the new software version, visit http://www.biocase.org.
