The University of California Berkeley, seeks a full-time Collections 
Manager for the Essig Museum of Entomology. The successful candidate 
will be responsible for managing a major research collection, 
responsibilities including: coordination of on-site use of the 
collection, specimen preparation and loan processing, coordination of 
public relations and outreach activities, management of supplies, 
functional equipment, and web site content, museum correspondence, 
facilitation of specimen acquisition and collection growth, and 
development and maintenance of museum records/databases.  The 
Collections Manager is responsible for the supervision of part-time 
museum scientists, lab assistants, and researchers.

The Essig Museum of Entomology collection at the University of 
California, Berkeley, was founded in 1881-85.  Its size and importance 
mushroomed with its designation as the collection component of the 
California Insect Survey in 1940.  Today the museum houses one of the 
largest and most active research collections of terrestrial arthropods 
in North America.  The museum has always maintained a strong commitment 
to education and extension.  Access to information on the arthropod 
biodiversity of California and other regions within the scope of our 
holdings is facilitated through the museum web site, as well as through 
specimen loans, site visits and individual queries.

Required Qualifications: Masters or PhD level education in entomology or 
related field with emphasis in principles of systematics and 
classification of insects. Advanced knowledge specific to the field of 
museum collection management/curation and familiarity with the broader 
collection community and resources available. Specialized knowledge of 
the taxonomy of all insect groups; in-depth, advanced knowledge of some.
Excellent communication skills, flexibility, high adaptability to meet 
challenges. Supervisory experience. Knowledge of budgeting, space and 
equipment inventories, and report preparation. Preferred Qualifications: 
Four years of experience in curatorial work, including one year in a 
supervisory capacity, or combination of education and experience. 
Knowledge of UC purchasing protocols and Environmental Health & Safety 
requirements would be an advantage, but can be learned. Knowledge of 
scientific specimen permit issues at the state, federal, and 
international levels. Valid California Drivers License.

Salary: $47,376-$76,224 depending on qualifications and experience. For
