With assistance from the National Science Foundation, a new compactorized
storage system will be installed on the third floor of the Harvard
University Herbaria building
(www.huh.harvard.edu)<http://www.huh.harvard.edu/>in the late summer
or early fall of 2011. Because of the way the present
cases were constructed they are not suitable for movable compactorized units
and must be replaced. The old cases, however, are still perfectly adequate
for housing herbarium specimens and will be available for the taking on a
first come, first served basis.

The herbarium cases to be replaced were assembled on-site and are attached
to each other by small screws or rivets in various configurations, as
follows.

   - 8 12-unit rows (with 2 rows joined back to back -- these can be kept as
single 12-unit rows if desired and do not have to be reassembled back to
   back).
   - 16 half cases (4 cases per unit; units can be separated into 2 unit
combinations; great for herbarium storage with flexible counter-top space)
   - 2 8-unit rows (with rows joined back to back -- these can be kept as
single 8-unit rows if desired and do not have to be reassembled back to
   back)
   - 2 6-unit rows (with 2 rows joined back to back -- these can be kept as
single 6-unit rows if desired and do not have to be reassembled back to
   back)
   - 1 8-unit row
   - 1 6-unit row

*Total: 166 full size cases, 16 half cases*

The cases must be disassembled before they can be moved. To facilitate
reassembly, it would be beneficial to have a representative present during
disassembly. Transportation will be at the expense of the recipients and
should be arranged well in advance.
