Call for Nominations

Sloan Research Fellowships Expand to Honor Junior Faculty Working in  
the Ocean Sciences

The Alfred P. Sloan Foundation invites nominations of outstanding  
early-career scientists and researchers for its Sloan Research  
Fellowships in Ocean Sciences.  Department chairs or other senior  
scholars wishing to recognize and support their exceptionally  
promising junior colleagues should submit nominations no later than  
September 15, 2011.

Sloan Research Fellows receive $50,000 to spend on research-related  
purposes in certain scientific fields.  For the first time since the  
program began in 1955, a selection committee of distinguished ocean  
scientists will specifically read nominations in that field.  The  
Sloan Foundation is undertaking this expansion in recognition of the  
many achievements made by marine scientists working on the Census of  
Marine Life.
