Many botanists and ecologists who have worked on Australian and Mediterranean vegetation classifications, regionalisations and endemicity, will know the work of John Beard.
John was Director of Western Australia's Kings Park and Botanic Garden and subsequently the Royal Botanic Gardens in Sydney, and his pioneering ecological survey work over many decades in Western Australia became the foundation for that State's representation in the biogeographic regionalisation of Australia.
He will be sadly missed.
