* the thing we're trying to do here is to transfer as much of the work
from the GIS operator to me as the observer and data entrist, and
especially to take advantage of the many cases where we've got reference
points on both sides of the observation, so I'll be assigning the
co-ordinates as those falling at the recorded proportion of the distance
between reference points, and can use these to calibrate the odometer of
a vehicle for places where there's only one reference point.
It will be interesting to see how well this works (e.g. how many
recorded stands of Typha angustifolia are still there, and how well the
locations match with later GPS co-ordinates), and how much work is
entailed in working them out.
