[Taxacom] Nomina Insecta Nearctica

In the years 1995-1997 Robert W. Poole compiled a synonymical checklist 
of the insects of North America north of Mexico, i.e. Nomina Insecta 
Nearctica.  It was published as a series of 4 volumes and a searchable 
cd-rom.  A few years later a expurgated version without synonyms was 
place on www.nearctica.com.

The Nomina database, the printed volumes, the printed volumes, and the 
copyright were contributed to the Department of Entomology, Smithsonian 
Institution in 2005.

The database is currently on the EMU server at the Smithsonian, but is 
not generally available to the public.  Therefore I have placed the 
database, broken into easily digestable chuncks in Microsoft Access 
format (the original was in a dbf format), on www.nearctica.com.

In addition pdf's of the original printed volumes (again broken down 
into easily downloaded chunks) are also on the same website. 

There are no restrictions on the use of this data from my standpoint.  
However any questions concerning copyright conformance should be 
directed to the chairman of the Department of Entomology, Smithsonian 
Institution.
