I dunno about that. Until we really start recycling metals more than
we are today, we are going to have to look for more mineral deposits.
I imagine today's mineralogists can use satellite detection, and ground
truthing. Thus, there is less need for more mineralogists.

I don't know about Astronomy but if I believe some of the geologist I
know it seems that Mineralogy is having also the same sort of decline
we are experiencing in Taxonomy.
Probably for the same reason.
