---------------------

We have an exciting position coming up at Adelaide as the Chief Botanist of the State Herbarium of South Australia. The position is a joint position between the State Herbarium and the University of Adelaide, and will also be a new Professorial position, the HBS Womersley Chair in Systematic Botany, named in honour of Prof Bryan Womersley, who has dedicated his life's work to systematics in South Australia.

The main role of the position is to run the State Herbarium as the Chief Botanist and to stimulate activity and research around this important national collection (now greater than 1 Million specimens). The position will be supported by two managerial positions and therefore we are after someone with a strategic view but also good knowledge of the workings of and research undertaken in a herbarium of international standing.

This is an important position to help consolidate the future direction of the State Herbarium following a major integration of science activities across the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (http://www.environment.sa.gov.au/science/state-herbarium/overview.html, http://www.environment.sa.gov.au/science/pdfs/sh-prospectus.pdf).

This position will also be important for consolidating the collection and research strengths in systematics and evolution in Adelaide across the State Herbarium, University of Adelaide and South Australian Museum, as exemplified by the joint nature of the Australian Centre for Evolutionary Biology and Biodiversity (http://www.adelaide.edu.au/environment/acebb/, http://www.adelaide.edu.au/environment/acebb/annuals/AR2009.pdf).

Please pass this email onto anyone you think may be interested. More information about the position can be found here: http://www.adelaide.edu.au/jobs/current/16273/
Im happy to answer further questions about the position either by email or phone.

Sincerely
Andrew Lowe
