The University of Kansas Biodiversity Institute seeks a person for the
position of Programmer I for the Specify Software Project.
This position reports to the Biodiversity Research Center's Assistant
Director for Informatics. Technical oversight will be given by the
Specify Project Lead Developer. The position is funded through a grant
from the U.S. National Science Foundation for two years, and will be
extended contingent on the availability of grant funding. The position
offers a flexible schedule of 40 hours a week of in-office work and
requires availability for periodic travel to national and international
meetings.

Required Qualifications:
1. A bachelor's degree in a science field or one-year of professional
software development experience with Java (not including coursework).
2. Knowledge and skill in best-practices software design, including
object-oriented design principles.
3. Six months of experience with programming relational database
systems, must know SQL, relational database design principles.
4. Developer's level understanding of existing and emerging internet
standards and technologies.
5. Excellent communication skills and demonstrable history of
efficient and productive work skills and team collaboration.
