[Taxacom] FW: ICZN procedure question

The answer to 1) is none, In the past there were no specialist  
journals and taxonomic papers would have been published in a wide  
range of microbiology journals along with all the other aspects of  
microbiology. At present there are fewer publications in extenral  
journals and the IJSEM went from 4 rather thin issues per year to 12.  
No other journal has closed because of the concentration of such  
publications in one journal. If we were to increase output we would  
need to either increase output of the journal or create a second one.  
The major bottle neck is finding good taxonomists to review or do  
editorial work. There are only small numbers of prokaryote taxonomists  
left in the US and most European countries.

Just as a sideline issue the amount of funding for doing good  
prokaryote taxonomy is virtually zero in the US and most European  
countries.

The answer to 2) is that I can't estimate numbers in zoology.

It is all simply a case of logistics and wanting to do it.......
