Thanks for your answer - that is very helpful. It was not previously apparent to me that Hübner's "Samml. exot. Schmett." could refer to more than one work, also that there were 2 separate instances of Hamadryas Hübner, 1806, one rejected, one not... The ICZN official list now makes more sense, i.e. being able to say both that Hamadryas Hübner, 1806 [Tentamen] is unavailable, and that Hamadryas Hübner, 1808 [Reste Zutr, Samml. exot. Schmett.] is unavailable because it is a junior homonym of Hamadryas Hübner, 1806, which is otherwise quite mystifying!

For the record (being a non-German speaker) I am also pleased to discover, courtesy of Google translate, that "Samml. exot. Schmett." means "'collection of exotic butterflies".

I see difficulties in distinguishing the basically 4 different
publications by Huebner involved here. There seem to have been 3 and
not (as obviously believed here) 2 instances where Hamadyras was
mentioned:

Hübner, J. 1805. Tentamen determinationis digestionis atque
denominationis singularum stirpium Lepidopterorum, peritis ad
inspiciendum et dijudicandum communicatum. - pp. 1-2.

This work is rejected. Hamadryas was mentioned.

Hübner, J. 1808. Erste Zutraege zur Sammlung exotischer
Schmetterlinge, bestehend in genauer und richtiger Bekundigung einzeln
erworbener Bildermuster neuerfundener americanischer und
columbianischer Schmetterlingsgattungen. - pp. 1-8. Augsburg.

This work is also rejected. Hamadryas was mentioned.

Hübner, J. 1805. Sammlung europäischer Schmetterlinge. Lepidoptera, I.
- pp. [1], Taf. 1-196. Augsburg.

This work is available, Hamadryas was mentioned on p. [2] (as
Hamadryades, plural) and Taf. [47] (Hamadryas) (and several other
plates) and is available from there.

Smithsonian (or rather, Internet Archive) did not give page numbers
and plate numbers in the metadata of this work. P. [2] is found 2
pages after the title page, and pl. [47] can be found at #107.
