Second circular
The fifth international Rubiaceae and Gentianales Conference
Stockholm, Sweden, September 6–10, 2010.
The Bergius Foundation has the privilege to host the fifth
International Rubiaceae and Gentianales Conference on September 06 to
10, 2010 in Stockholm, Sweden. This conference endeavours to bring
together international researchers that share a common interest in
the study of the Gentianales. The meeting will be an exciting
opportunity to exchange new ideas, to share results, as well as to
strengthen international collaboration. We would like to extend our
warmest welcome to all of you for joining us for this conference. We
are looking forward to meeting you in Stockholm.
Conference Theme and Statement
The theme of the conference is “Biodiversity in the light of
historical information”. Phylogenetic analyses and the use of
historical data have greatly enhanced our ability to understand
biodiversity in space and time. This international conference will
focus on recent progress in the use of biodiversity data for improved
estimation of phylogeny and its various applications. This will hold
promise for the future use of Rubiaceae and the Gentianales as model
systems for understanding flowering plant evolution.
Presentations and topics
The following topics are planned for oral and poster presentations.
* Biodiversity, taxonomy and species richness
* Progress in phylogeny
* Turning phylogenies into classifications
* Dating lineages
* Biogeography and paleoclimates
* Character evolution
Of course, presentations of work such as revisions in the Gentianales
are also welcome.

Accommodation
You have to book your own accommodation. The list below comprises a
number of selected hotels based on convenience, as they are close to
local area transportation to the conference area. There are several
other events in Stockholm during the week of the conference, and we
recommend that you book you accommodation as well in advance as
possible. Prices indicated for the different hotels/hostels are
likely to vary on a daily basis based on room availability and
demand. If you are willing to share accommodation with a colleague, a
double room is usually less expensive per person than a single room.
Should you prefer to stay at other hotels, it might be a good idea to
choose one close to the metro (T-bana) stations: T-centralen,
Östermalmstorg, Stadion, or Tekniska Högskolan.
