Perhaps we can blame Adam and Eve for the current population crisis? - I guess the "tablets" Adam gave to Eve weren't "the pill" ...

It seems to me, though, that if God told Adam all the names of the
plants and animals, Adam might not have understood their importance
until after eating of the fruit of the Tree of Knowledge. Therefore Adam
may not have bothered to write it all down, until it was too late and he
and Eve were driven from the Garden. Perhaps if God had handed Adam a
copy of the Encyclopedia of Life at the gate on their way out .....
