19th International Symposium
“Biodiversity and Evolutionary Biology”
of the German Botanical Society (DBG) – Vienna
September, 16th - 19th, 2010

2nd circular

Dear Colleagues,

the plans for our symposium in Vienna have progressed and we can now formally invite you to participate and register for our meeting in Vienna on Septmber 16th to 19th.

Registration is now possible under http://biodiversitaet.univie.ac.at/registration/
We have limited registration fees to 98 Euro (regular participant), 78 Euro (participant from developing countries) and 48 Euro (students) and hope that this will allow many of you to join the meeting.

We are looking forward to your contributions to the meeting. Abstracts for oral presentations or posters can now be submitted to biodiversityevolution2010 at gmail.com – see http://biodiversitaet.univie.ac.at/abstract-submission/
for further information on how to submit the abstracts. Oral presentations should fit under one of the specific symposium topics outlined at http://biodiversitaet.univie.ac.at/the-program/
The scientific program will be updated as soon as more information becomes available. Please visit our internet site from time to time for updates.

Our scientific program features special lectures by Prof. Thomas Borsch (Berlin; topic to be announced) and Georg Grabherr (Vienna; “Climate change impact on alpine plants”).

Topics of the symposia will be diverse and hopefully encourage a lively meeting covering many aspects of current systematic and evolutionary research. We are grateful to symposium organizers planning symposia on
•	the evolution and biogeography of apomictic plants (Hörandl)
•	the biology of invasions (Meimberg)
•	bryophyte systematics and evolution (Heinrichs)
•	the evolution and climate change (Müllner, Zizka)
•	plant genome evolution (Weiss-Schneeweiss, Emadzade)
•	inflorescence shaping: From meristems to flowering units (Claßen-Bockhoff)
•	flowers: Structural, functional and systematic aspects (Hesse, Schönenberger, Weber)
•	the role of polyploidy in evolution (Marhold, Suda) and
•	a workshop on palynology (Buchner, Hesse)

An Excursion focusing on Pannonian flora and vegetation in the landscape east of Vienna (March-Donau-Auen, Hainburger Berge, or Neusiedlersee & Seewinkel) is planned for Sunday, 19th September 2010. This will be a bus tour for which we ask for a contribution of 28,00 Euro (see registration page). Other guided tours will be available free of charge (http://biodiversitaet.univie.ac.at/excursions/).

Information on housing and travel will appear on our website soon.

Hoping to see you in Vienna in September!
