[Taxacom] digital caliper & software

I would like to record plant measurements with a digital caliper and
have the data sent directly to a spreadsheet (like Excel) on a
Macintosh (or better yet, an iPhone). I know that there used to be a
program called ExCaliper (which I desperately want to be able to use,
just for the name), but it only works on OS 9 and earlier.

I've looked into a few options online, and as near as I can figure
I'd have to buy a digital caliper with SPC output (about $170), a SPC
output cable (about $45), and another cable called a "USB input tool"
(about $170). That just seems silly. Can anyone recommend a more
reasonable set-up (both in terms of price and number of cables)?

Thanks in advance.

-Leah
