Art. 86.2. Force of texts. The English and French texts of the Code
are official texts and are equivalent in force, meaning and
authority.

The French text is not a mere translation of the English Code, in
the same way as the English text is not a mere translation of the
French Code. The English Code is in no way superior to the French
Code. For the interpretation of an article both texts must be
consulted, and only that meaning can be taken as intended and
effective which complies with both texts. This means that only those
"attributes" were meant that are "descriptive elements of an
organism". And this indeed means intrinsic (something of the
described organism itself).

> Looks to me like French just doesn't have a single word for
> 'attribute',

The French translation of attribute is attribut.
